Stonewall Report Published

Stonewall today publishes ‘Different Families', groundbreaking research examining the experiences of children with gay parents. Stonewall commissioned the Centre for Family Research to conduct interviews and focus groups with children of lesbian, gay and bisexual parents. Between October 2009 and February 2010, Helen Statham and Sarah Jennings interviewed 82 children and young people between the ages of 4 and 27 across the country about their family lives and school experiences.

The research study titled "The School Experiences of Children with Lesbiabn and Gay Parents", headed by Professor Susan Golombok , provides insights into the prevalence of homophobia in Britain’s schools, including primary schools. Among the report’s recommendations, some of which were made by the children interviewed, are for schools to respond robustly to homophobic language and bullying. You can read the full report here.
